Robert D. Orringer, M.D. is a board certified colon and rectal surgeon maintaining a private practice in Millburn, NJ and Morristown, NJ. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1975. He completed a surgical internship at the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston in 1976. This was followed by a six year General Surgical residency at the Harvard Surgical Service of the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston which included a 6-month rotation as a Junior Registrar in Surgery at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen Scotland. He completed a Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the world renowned Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA in 1982. Dr. Orringer’s interests include the treatment of all manifestations of intestinal disease including cancer, colitis, diverticulitis, and Crohns disease. In addition, he is successful in treating the entire gambit of anorectal conditions including prolapse, fissures, fistulas, hemorrhoids, and sphincter problems. Treatments range from the most conservative approaches to new cutting edge minimally invasive techniques. He has personally performed several thousand of these procedures. He has performed almost ten thousand colonoscopies and specializes in removing the difficult polyps that were considered unremoveable by others.
Dr. Orringer is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is past president of the New Jersey Gastroenterological Society. In addition, he was Colon and Rectal Section Chief in the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Surgery Department. He is also active in the New Jersey and New York Colon and Rectal Societies.
Dr. Orringer is an attending surgeon at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, and Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ.
Dr. Orringer is a recipient of the 2014 NJ monthly Top Docs award.
